Department of Microbiology carries out intensive research focused on virulence, toxicity and antibiotic resistance mechanisms in environmental strains of Bacillus cereus sensu lato and Staphylococcus spp. Another important field of scientific activity is physiological immunology of mammals. Well-experienced personnel and excellent hardware facilities provides the basis for research and students teaching.  

 

About the department:

Department of MIcrobiology is a part of Institute of Biology at the University of Bialystok. Research in the Department of Microbiology are focused on biology of selected bacteria (e.g. bacilli and ataphylococci) as well as virulence linked to these microorganisms. Another branch of scientific interest in the Department of Microbiology is physiological immunology. Department of Microbiology is well equipped, e.g. with DNA sequencers, real-time PCR, pulse-field gel electrophoresis system, proteomic (2D electrophoresis) laboratory, HPLC and many others.

Selected equipment: Ion Torrent (sequencer), Applied Biosystems 3500 Genetic analyzer (sequencer), StepOne Plus (real-time thermocycler), Dionex HPLC station, flow cytometry, complete ecuipment for 2D protein electrophoresis and analyses, pulse-field gel electrophoresis system (Bio-Rad)
